Outbreak of E. coli O157 linked to imported salad, two killed and over 150 people affected

A UK E.coli O157 outbreak has killed two, and sickened over 150 people. Public Health England (PHE) said it had identified that several ill people ate mixed salad including rocket leaves prior to becoming unwell, and whole genome sequencing has indicated that the strain involved is likely to be an imported one, possibly from the Mediterranean area. However, the source is not confirmed and remains under investigation with other food items not being ruled out.

The BBC have published 'Wash salad' advice from PHE, about avoiding E. coli infection. This can be found here
